Item from Bleach by Tite Kubo
Ichigo Kurosaki's Zanpakutō — started as an oversized cleaver, reforged into dual blades representing his Hollow (true Zanpakutō) and Quincy heritage after the truth of his powers was revealed.
Zangetsu's identity crisis mirrors Ichigo's. For most of the series, Ichigo believed 'Old Man Zangetsu' — a figure resembling a younger Yhwach — was his Zanpakutō spirit, and the white-masked Hollow inside him was an enemy. The truth was inverted: the Hollow WAS his true Zanpakutō spirit, and Old Man Zangetsu was a manifestation of his Quincy blood, deliberately suppressing Ichigo's full Shinigami power to protect him from a Shinigami's fate. When Ichigo learned this, Nimaiya reforged Zangetsu into dual blades — one black (true Zanpakutō), one white (Quincy) — acknowledging both halves of his soul. The Getsuga Tenshō (Moon Fang Heaven-Piercer) is its signature attack: a crescent wave of compressed spiritual energy fired from the blade's swing.
Original: a massive black cleaver with no guard, wrapped hilt, and a short chain dangling from the pommel — too large for conventional swordsmanship. Reforged: dual blades — a large black khyber knife (Hollow/Zanpakutō spirit) and a smaller white trench knife (Quincy power). Bankai: the large blade compresses into a sleek black daitō with a manji guard.
