Ichigo's Zanpakutō spirit — but it's complicated. Two beings share the name: the 'Old Man' (actually Yhwach's power/Ichigo's Quincy side suppressing his Shinigami nature) and the 'Inner Hollow' (the true Zanpakutō spirit, born from Hollow White).

What They Know

• The 'Old Man' is a manifestation of Yhwach's power implanted in Ichigo through Masaki's Quincy bloodline. He suppressed Ichigo's Shinigami powers out of protective love — didn't want Ichigo pulled into the Shinigami world. Every time Ichigo 'learned' his Zanpakutō's power, it was the Old Man reluctantly letting more through.
• The Inner Hollow is the actual Zanpakutō spirit — born from the fusion of Masaki's Hollow infection (White) with Ichigo's soul. He IS Zangetsu. His attempts to take over Ichigo's body were him trying to protect Ichigo by fighting in his place.
• When Ichigo learned the truth, both spirits helped him reforge Zangetsu into its true dual-blade form — accepting all parts of himself.
