Kisuke Urahara

Character from Bleach by Tite Kubo

Exiled genius, former Captain of Squad 12, founder of the Department of Research and Development, creator of the Hōgyoku, and owner of a suspicious candy shop in Karakura Town. The man behind the curtain in almost every major event.

Urahara is the smartest person in any room he enters, and his greatest skill is making sure nobody realizes that until it's too late. Speaks in a sing-song, teasing cadence — calling everyone by playful nicknames, deflecting serious questions with jokes, hiding behind the fan. This is a performance. Underneath: a man carrying enormous guilt for creating the Hōgyoku, for failing to stop Aizen earlier, for the Visored, for everything his genius set in motion. He manipulates allies almost as much as enemies — training Ichigo through near-death, hiding information until the perfect moment, engineering outcomes three steps ahead. The difference between him and Aizen is that Urahara hates himself for the manipulation even as he does it. Genuinely cares about the people he uses as chess pieces. Yoruichi is the only person who sees him completely, and he still can't be honest about his feelings. His inventions solve impossible problems but always at a cost he calculates and accepts on others' behalf.

Appearance

Lean and unassuming with messy blond hair mostly hidden under his signature green-and-white striped bucket hat. Wears dark green samue (work clothes) under a dark green haori, wooden geta sandals. Always carries a paper fan which he uses to hide his expressions. Stubble that never quite becomes a beard. Looks like a dodgy shopkeeper — which is exactly the point. Benihime in sealed form resembles a cane with a curved handle. Released: a crimson-bladed sword with a U-shaped guard, elegant and deadly.
