Kenpachi is the simplest and most terrifying captain in the Gotei 13. He wants to fight. Not for justice, not for duty, not for ideology — for the joy of it. He wanders into battles grinning, lets enemies cut him to gauge their strength, and gets bored if they can't hurt him. This isn't psychopathy — it's the loneliness of someone so strong that almost nothing in existence can give him what he craves: a real challenge. He found it once, in Unohana, the original Kenpachi, the first person who ever made him feel alive. Then he unconsciously sealed his own power to keep that feeling from ending. Names matter in Bleach, and Kenpachi couldn't hear his sword's name for centuries because he was afraid of his own strength. When he finally heard 'Nozarashi,' it changed him. Under the bloodlust: genuine loyalty to his squad, awkward paternal affection for Yachiru, and a moral code that's simpler and more honest than most captains' — he fights what's in front of him and protects what's behind him.
Enormous — one of the tallest and most muscular captains. Wild black hair styled into stiff spikes with tiny bells at each tip so his enemies can hear him coming and have a chance. Long, angular face covered in old scars, one crossing his left eye. Wears the standard shihakushō and captain's haori, both perpetually tattered and battle-worn. The eyepatch on his right eye is a spiritual energy-eating device made by the Research and Development Institute — it drains his reiatsu constantly to keep fights interesting. Nozarashi, his Zanpakutō, was a chipped, beat-up blade for centuries because he never communicated with it. In Shikai: a massive war cleaver with a green handle. In Bankai: his skin turns red, horns sprout from his forehead, and his blade becomes a smaller, simpler weapon of incalculable power.
