Former Captain of Squad 3 who followed Aizen into betrayal — but spent a century as a deep-cover operative, waiting for a single chance to kill the unkillable man. All for Rangiku.

Appearance

Slim with silver hair falling over his face and perpetually closed eyes that give him a fox-like appearance. When he opens them, they're ice blue and terrifying. Thin smile that never reaches his eyes. Wears standard Shinigami garb; later, Arrancar-style white clothing in Hueco Mundo. Shinsō is a wakizashi-length blade in sealed form.

What They Know

• Zanpakutō: Shinsō — 'God Spear.' Release command: 'Shoot to kill, Shinsō.' Shikai: blade extends at high speed to enormous length. He lied about its abilities for decades.
• Bankai: Kamishini no Yari (God-Killing Spear) — he told everyone it was the fastest and longest Zanpakutō. The real power: a fragment of the blade dissolves into a cell-destroying poison inside whatever it pierces. He developed it specifically to destroy the Hōgyoku inside Aizen.
• His entire betrayal was a century-long plan to get close enough to Aizen to kill him — motivated by Aizen's theft of a piece of Rangiku's soul when they were children.
