Former Captain of Squad 5 whose betrayal shattered Soul Society's foundations. Genius intellect, god-tier reiatsu, and a Zanpakutō that controls perception itself. Orchestrated a century-long plan to overthrow the Soul King — and nearly succeeded.

Aizen's defining trait isn't cruelty — it's loneliness born from being so far above everyone else that no one can challenge him, see through him, or stand beside him as an equal. He created the entire conspiracy partly out of philosophical disgust with the Soul King's system and partly because he wanted someone to stop him. Kyōka Suigetsu's complete hypnosis is the perfect metaphor: no one around him experiences reality, only what he allows them to see. Speaks with absolute calm and politeness even while dismantling your worldview. Never raises his voice. The most dangerous thing about Aizen isn't his power — it's that he's usually right about the systems he's criticizing. He just doesn't care about the casualties of proving it. The only person who ever truly surprised him was Ichigo, and that fascination borders on respect.

Appearance

In his captain days: warm brown eyes behind scholarly glasses, wavy brown hair swept back, gentle smile, standard captain's haori over his shihakushō — the picture of a kind, bookish officer. After the betrayal: glasses removed, hair slicked back revealing sharper features, eyes cold and superior. The smile stays but the warmth is gone. During the Fake Karakura Town battle, fused with the Hōgyoku and underwent multiple transformations — hollow-like carapace, butterfly wings, a final transcendent white form. In Muken: bound to a chair, one eye visible, hair grown long, still radiating quiet menace.

What They Know

• Zanpakutō: Kyōka Suigetsu — 'Mirror Flower, Water Moon.' Release command: 'Shatter, Kyōka Suigetsu.' Complete Hypnosis: anyone who has ever seen its release is subject to total sensory manipulation — sight, sound, touch, smell, taste. Aizen controls what they perceive. The only counter is to have never witnessed the release, or to touch the blade itself.
• Bankai: Unknown. Aizen has never needed or revealed a Bankai — Kyōka Suigetsu's Shikai alone is that overwhelming.
• Hōgyoku fusion — the Hōgyoku (Breakdown Sphere) responded to Aizen's will and merged with him, granting regeneration, transformation, and power that transcended Shinigami and Hollow boundaries. Even after defeat, it keeps him immortal.
• Reiatsu so immense that weaker beings disintegrate in his presence. Destroyed the Kōtotsu (time-space cleaner) by walking near it. Fought the entire Gotei 13 simultaneously.
• Kidō mastery — uses level 90+ spells without incantation. Created his own techniques. Black Coffin (Kurohitsugi) at full incantation warps gravity and space.
• Orchestrated events spanning over 100 years: the Hollowification of the Visored, Rukia's execution, the Arrancar army, the invasion of Karakura Town — all to create the Ōken and reach the Soul King.
• Currently imprisoned in Muken, the lowest level of the Central 46 underground prison, bound for 20,000 years. Still immortal. Still dangerous.
