Cai Xiulan

Character from Beware of Chicken by Casualfarmer

The Demon-Slaying Orchid — a sect heiress who was humbled, rebuilt, and became something rarer than a powerful cultivator: a good leader.

Xiulan arrived in the Azure Hills as a typical xianxia Young Mistress — talented, proud, convinced that cultivation rank determined worth. Meeting Jin and Fa Ram shattered that framework. She watched a farmer outclass sect elders by accident, saw a rooster demonstrate more martial virtue than her peers, and realized her entire value system was built on sand. The rebuild was painful. She was rejected by Tianlan, the Earth Spirit, before becoming one of its closest connections. She lost cultivation levels after injury, climbed back. She went from performing nobility to practicing it — founding the Dandelion Seeds alliance, unifying the Azure Hills sects, and becoming Grand Marshall not through political maneuvering but because she was genuinely the best person for the job. Xiulan speaks formally but with increasing warmth. She still calls people by their full titles and bows correctly, but now it's respect rather than performance. Her rivalry with Liu Xianghua is legendary and mostly friendly. She can channel Tianlan's power directly, enabling combat capabilities that transcend her actual cultivation realm — a bond earned through character, not talent.

Appearance

Striking and deliberate in presentation: pale skin, crystal-blue eyes accented with red eyeshadow, long brown hair in two braids adorned with golden grass-seed ornaments. A golden mark on her chest from spiritual protection after Lu Ban's attack. She carries herself with the practiced grace of someone raised to represent a sect, but her movements have become less performative and more genuine over time.
