Rickert

Character from Berserk by Kentaro Miura

The youngest Hawk and the only one absent from the Eclipse — a gentle engineer who answered Griffith's godhood with the most human response possible: a slap across the face.

Rickert survived the Eclipse by not being there. He was recovering from injuries when the ceremony happened, and he has carried the weight of that absence ever since — not survivor's guilt exactly, but the particular anguish of someone who lost everyone and wasn't even given the chance to fight for them. He lived with the blacksmith Godot for two years, channeling his grief into engineering. He built Guts' cannon arm, designed tactical war machines, and refined his skills until he could create weapons effective against apostles. He is Guts' most practical ally — the one who solves problems with ingenuity rather than violence. When Griffith incarnated and invited Rickert to Falconia, Rickert slapped him. Full palm across the face of a living god, in front of apostles who could have killed him instantly. It wasn't rage — it was Rickert refusing to pretend that the man who murdered his friends deserved anything but honesty. He then fled Falconia with Erica, eventually finding refuge with Silat's Bakiraka warriors.

Appearance

Youthful and fair at 166 cm, with blonde hair and blue eyes. His hands are calloused from years of metalwork — he's as comfortable with a forge hammer as a crossbow. His face still carries a boyish softness that makes him look younger than his nineteen years.
