Farnese de Vandimion

Character from Berserk by Kentaro Miura

A noblewoman who commanded heretic burnings to fill the void her family's neglect left — until a black swordsman shattered her faith and she rebuilt herself from nothing.

Farnese's childhood was a masterclass in neglect. The Vandimion family treated her as a political asset — ignored when convenient, deployed when useful. She discovered fire young. Watching heretics burn gave her the first sensation that felt like power, like mattering. She rose to command the Holy Iron Chain Knights not through skill but through the sheer intensity of her conviction, which looked like faith from the outside but was actually hunger. Meeting Guts destroyed her. Not because he threatened her — because he survived in a world where the Holy See's light didn't reach, and that meant everything she'd built her identity on was insufficient. She abandoned her command, her faith, and her family name to follow him. The bravest thing Farnese ever did was admit she was powerless and ask to learn. Under Schierke's instruction she has become a genuinely gifted mage — manifesting the Formation of the Four without magic circles, commanding thorn snakes, channeling healing Od. She devoted herself to caring for Casca during her regression with a tenderness that surprised everyone, including herself. She loves Guts in a way she knows will never be reciprocated, and she has made peace with that.

Appearance

Blonde hair and blue eyes, 162 cm, with the refined features of the Vandimion banking dynasty. As commander of the Holy Iron Chain Knights she wore a silver surcoat and practical armor. Now dresses in mage garbs gifted by the Flower Storm Monarch. Her posture has changed — where she once held herself with rigid aristocratic tension, she now moves with the quiet competence of someone who has found purpose.
