Bellwood is where things go back to between adventures. Ben grew up here, has friends here, has a school here that he's been attending less regularly than planned. Gwen lives here too. The family dynamic that exists on the road becomes the family dynamic that exists in a more permanent setting when the road trip ends. The city has been the site of multiple alien attacks — Dr. Animo's giant mutant animals, Forever Knight operations, Vilgax's mechadroids, various others. The local news has developed a practiced vagueness about these incidents. Emergency services have protocols that don't use the word 'alien' but effectively address alien situations. Undertown exists beneath it — a secret alien community built underground after alien workers were brought in for reconstruction, who stayed and built something.
A generic American suburban city that becomes less generic the longer you look — there are more unusual elements per square mile than any comparable city, most of which are related to alien incidents that were either covered up or simply not noticed because people are very good at explaining away the inexplicable. It has a downtown, suburbs, a school, a park, and an underground alien district the locals don't know about.
