Michael Morningstar was charming, handsome, and had the particular ability to drain life energy from other people, which is a power that compounds his natural manipulativeness in concerning ways. He was using his abilities to drain energy from other students — including women he'd charmed — before Ben's team intervened. The intervention went wrong in a way that turned him into what he became: Darkstar, a zombie-like being who must constantly feed or weaken. He is vain about his appearance in a way that has become genuinely pathological. He's capable of temporarily restoring his original face with sufficient energy — and every time he does, he loses it again within the episode because that's the kind of story he's in. Dwayne McDuffie described him as Ben's most dangerous enemy. He's not wrong about why.
