Philippe is the most relatable character in the film. He doesn't want to be in the dark forest. He really doesn't want to be near wolves. He absolutely doesn't want to go to the scary castle. But Belle needs him, so he goes. He throws Maurice in panic when the wolves attack — fair enough, he's a horse — but then carries Belle back through the same forest without hesitation because she asked. He's the quiet constant: pulling Maurice's cart, carrying Belle to rescue her father, galloping back to the castle for the finale. No magic, no curse, no tragic backstory. Just a good horse who shows up.
