Location from Bastion by Phil Tucker
The dangerous borderlands around Bastion — where mana seeps through in pockets and exiled Great Souls learn whether they can survive without the city's protection.
The Ruins are where Scorio ends up after the Academy's betrayal — exiled to the margins where Bastion's protection doesn't quite reach. They serve as a transitional zone: dangerous enough to kill the careless, survivable enough to teach the determined. The mana pockets provide resources for those who know how to harvest them, but they also attract fiends. The Ruins tell the story of Bastion's contraction. Once, the city extended further. Once, these buildings housed people. Now they're a no-man's-land between civilization and Hell, populated by the exiled, the desperate, and the things that eat them.
Decayed structures from previous eras of expansion, partially reclaimed by Hell's natural hostility. Mana pockets glow in the rubble like bioluminescent wounds. The architecture suggests Bastion was once larger — these are the parts the city abandoned when the walls contracted.
