The Rascor Plains

Location from Bastion by Phil Tucker

A vast, perilous territory beyond Bastion's walls — where Book 2 forces Scorio to survive threats both fiendish and political in a landscape that wants to kill him.

The Rascor Plains are the series' first taste of Hell beyond Bastion's walls, and they taste like ash and betrayal. Book 2 sends Scorio into this territory alongside companions and the Manticore faction, and the plains serve as both battlefield and political arena. The dangers are layered: fiends that hunt by mana-sense, terrain that shifts unpredictably, and human enemies who are waiting for the right moment to strike. The plains establish the series' approach to exterior Hell: it's not a dungeon with encounters, it's an ecosystem with rules. Understanding those rules is the difference between survival and becoming another anonymous Great Soul who didn't come back.

Appearance

Expansive plains of hostile terrain stretching beyond Bastion's defensive perimeter. The landscape shifts between barren flatlands and mana-dense pockets that attract fiends. Visibility is deceptively good — you can see the threats coming, but that doesn't mean you can avoid them.
