Location from Bastion by Phil Tucker
The lost home planet — humanity's origin that exists now only as aspiration, the place everyone in Bastion is trying to get back to and nobody knows how.
Ettera is the series' most important location precisely because nobody can reach it. It represents everything Bastion is fighting for: a world with a sky, with seasons, with the possibility of something other than eternal war. The Great Souls' reincarnation cycle was supposedly established to maintain the fight until return became possible. But Ettera's status is uncertain. The Herdsmen may know whether it still exists. The Lost Cube may contain answers. Scorio's past lives may hold memories of the original departure. Each revelation about Ettera raises new questions: did humanity choose to leave, or was it exiled? Is return possible, or has it always been a lie used to keep the Great Souls fighting?
Unknown to living memory. What survives are fragments — descriptions in ancient texts, half-remembered impressions from past lives, and the desperate certainty that it was better than Hell. Whether Ettera still exists, or whether it was destroyed when humanity was cast into Acherzua, is one of the series' unanswered questions.
