The silvery void between planes where the Githyanki empire drifts on dead god-corpses — Vlaakith's domain of absolute loyalty, where Lae'zel's people live as raiders and zealots.
The Astral Plane is a silver void where time doesn't pass and dead gods float like continents. The Githyanki built their empire here after freeing themselves from Mind Flayer enslavement, but freedom became a different kind of cage — Vlaakith's tyranny replaces the Elder Brain's, and no one is allowed to question the difference. Lae'zel grew up here, in a culture that venerates combat, despises weakness, and worships a lich-queen who devours any githyanki who grows powerful enough to threaten her. The Astral Prism — the artifact protecting the party from the Absolute — originates here, as does the Orphic Hammer needed to break it open. The Astral Plane is BG3's deepest piece of worldbuilding: an entire civilization built on justified paranoia that has calcified into authoritarianism.
