The Orphic Hammer is the key to one of BG3's most consequential branching paths. Orpheus, the githyanki prince, is imprisoned inside the Astral Prism. Freeing him requires the hammer, but the hammer belongs to Raphael — a cambion devil who runs the House of Hope in Avernus and collects souls the way others collect art. Raphael's deal is straightforward: the hammer for your soul, delivered after death. He's not lying, not adding hidden clauses, not being sneaky. It's a clean transaction. You can also steal the hammer by invading the House of Hope and fighting Raphael directly — one of the game's hardest optional fights. The hammer represents BG3's approach to power: every meaningful tool has a price, and the game respects you enough to make the price transparent.
