Adamantine Slag

Item from baldurs-gate-3 by Larian Studios

Chunks of raw adamantine ore found in Grymforge — when combined with mould templates in the ancient Adamantine Forge, they produce equipment that is literally indestructible and immune to critical hits.

Adamantine is the hardest material in the Forgotten Realms, and Grymforge's ancient forge is one of the only places capable of working it. The slag is scattered across the forge area — limited quantities that force you to choose what to make. Shields, maces, splint armor, scale mail — each requires one piece of slag and one mould. The forge itself is a boss encounter: activating it summons Grym, a construct guardian that is immune to almost everything except the forge's own lava channels. Defeating Grym by turning the forge's mechanisms against it is one of BG3's best environmental puzzles. The adamantine equipment you forge here will carry you through the rest of the game — the 'Adamantine' prefix on any armor means critical hits are reduced to normal hits, and attackers are knocked reeling. It's power earned through exploration and puzzle-solving rather than combat alone.
