The frozen, monster-haunted wastes above the Human Plains — where the rules break down and the things that live there don't care about your level.
The North is where Elos keeps its worst secrets and its strongest residents. Dark Ones drift through the wastes — beings of shadow and ancient consciousness that most humans avoid on principle. Dwarven cities burrow into the mountain ranges. Hallowfort exists as an improbable settlement where humans, Dark Ones, and other species coexist because the alternative is dying alone. The cold is the least dangerous thing here. Mana density reaches levels that mutate wildlife and birth monsters that would be apocalyptic if they ever moved south. Dungeons dot the landscape, including The Descent beneath Hallowfort — twenty-five levels of escalating insanity. Experienced adventurers come north to push their limits. Many of them don't come back.
Vast frozen expanses broken by jagged mountain ranges, ice-locked forests, and the occasional settlement that looks more like a fortress than a city. The sky is grey more often than blue. The mana density is thick enough to feel — a pressure on the senses that gets stronger the further north you go. Light behaves strangely near the most mana-dense zones.
