The heartland of human civilization on Elos — kingdoms, empires, and independent cities crammed together in the most temperate part of the continent.
The Human Plains are where most of Elos's human population lives, fights, and politics. The Empire of Lys dominates the east. Independent cities like Riverwatch hold the western frontier. Baralia presses from the northwest with religious militancy and occasional invasion. The Kingdom of Kroll sits in the southwest. The air smells different depending on where you are — woodsmoke and fresh bread near cities, wildflowers and monster dung on the roads between them. The danger level scales with distance from settlements: a day's ride from a major city is mostly safe, a week's ride puts you in territory where level-100 creatures hunt freely, and the borderlands near elven forests are where adventurers go to level up or die trying.
Rolling plains and river valleys dotted with walled cities, farming communities, and the occasional burned ruin from the most recent war or monster incursion. Roads connect the major settlements, but travel between them is never safe — bandits, monsters, and elven raiding parties ensure that caravans hire guards and solo travelers have high levels or death wishes.
