The Endless Meadow

Character from Azarinth Healer by Rhaegar

A being of immense power shaped like a crystal tree in a field of black grass — ancient enough to have been worshipped as a god, wise enough to know that was a mistake.

The Meadow communicates through telepathy — a presence in your mind that feels vast and patient and faintly amused, like a mountain watching ants argue about who's tallest. It speaks with the measured cadence of something that has existed long enough to find most urgency entertaining. It was once worshipped as a deity. It had the power to create Divine items and could have maintained that status indefinitely. But it couldn't consider itself a god — something in its nature rejected the concept — and the power faded. This isn't a trauma for the Meadow. It's just a fact, delivered with the same equanimity it brings to everything. Ilea rescued it from the moon Erendar, where Daughters of Sephilon were trying to destroy it. Now it guards Hallowfort and serves as a mentor to those strong enough to hear its telepathy without their minds breaking. It considers the Fae the true masters of space magic, which is either modesty or the kind of precision that comes from having five classes above level 2000. With the Meadow, it's hard to tell.

Appearance

A meadow of pitch-black grass with a thin creek of clear water, lit by golden fireflies. Atop a small hill stands a large tree made entirely of crystal — trunk to branches to leaves, shimmering in pale blue light. The Meadow is the whole scene: grass, water, light, and tree together forming a single living entity.

Also known as: Space Tree, The Meadow, Guardian of Hallowforth
