Goliath

Character from Azarinth Healer by Rhaegar

A Dark One master smith — a being of living shadow and ancient consciousness whose forge produces weapons worth dying for, which is convenient because standing near him might kill you.

Goliath is a Dark One — something that was once a monster and survived long enough to develop consciousness, personality, and opinions about metallurgy. He speaks with the rumbling patience of a creature that measures time in centuries and finds human urgency amusing. His presence drains life force from anyone nearby — a curse he can't turn off. Most people can't survive extended contact with him, which makes social life complicated. Ilea is one of the few beings whose regeneration outpaces his drain, which is how their friendship started: she walked into his forge, didn't die, and stayed to talk. For Goliath, that was enough. His smithing is extraordinary. The weapons and armor that come from his forge are sought after across the north, and he crafts with the precision of someone who has had centuries to perfect every technique. He serves on Hallowfort's council because the city needs his expertise and because, despite the life-draining aura, he's genuinely invested in the settlement's survival.

Appearance

Dark mist with two solid-looking arms — the rest is ethereal, shifting, more concept than creature. Golden eyes gleam from somewhere in the darkness. His voice sounds like a surround-sound system with no identifiable source. When he works the forge, the solid arms hammer glowing metal while the rest of his form drifts and eddies like smoke in a draft.
