A repurposed castle serving as the base of operations for humanity's most dangerous military branch. Where soldiers prepare for expeditions most of them won't return from.
The headquarters is an old castle that the Survey Corps inherited because nobody else wanted it — too far from the interior to be comfortable, too close to the walls to feel safe. Its stone corridors smell of horse, leather, and lamp oil. The mess hall is never full because the Corps never has enough people to fill it. Maps cover every wall, marked with expedition routes and casualty counts that tell the same story over and over. Training grounds outside are scarred from ODM practice runs. Erwin Smith's office overlooks the courtyard where soldiers mount up before expeditions, riding out through the gate while civilians watch with a mix of admiration and the certainty they're watching dead people ride. The castle has a stable, an armory, and too many empty bunks.
