The Nine Titans

Item from Attack on Titan by Hajime Isayama

The Founding Titan's power, split into nine after Ymir Fritz died. Each grants a unique Titan form for thirteen years before killing its inheritor. The Curse of Ymir.

When Ymir Fritz died thirteen years after becoming the first Titan, her power was divided among her three daughters, who were forced to eat her corpse. Their descendants further divided the power until nine distinct Titans existed, each with unique abilities: the Founding, Attack, Female, Armored, Colossal, Beast, Jaw, Cart, and War Hammer. The system comes with an expiration date — the Curse of Ymir ensures no Shifter lives more than thirteen years after inheriting. When a Shifter dies without being consumed, the power passes to a random Eldian newborn somewhere in the world. The Nine Titans shaped civilization for two millennia. Wars were fought over them. Children were fed to their predecessors. Empires rose and fell based on which nation controlled which Titans. Marley held seven. Paradis held two. The math of power was never in Paradis's favor, which made what happened next all the more extraordinary — and all the more terrible.
