Zeke Yeager

Character from Attack on Titan by Hajime Isayama

The Beast Titan and Eren's half-brother — a man who decided the kindest thing he could do for his people was ensure they were never born again, because existence itself was the curse.

Zeke Yeager is the son Grisha raised first and ruined worst. Born in Marley's internment zone, Zeke was conscripted into the Warrior program by his own parents — Eldian Restorationists who needed a spy inside the Marleyan military. They filled his childhood with ideology instead of love. They told him he was the hope of Eldia. They made him a weapon before he was old enough to understand what weapons were for. Zeke turned them in. At seven years old, he reported his parents to the Marleyan authorities to save himself and — he would say later — to save them from a doomed cause. The man who advised him to do it was Tom Ksaver, the previous Beast Titan, the closest thing Zeke ever had to a real father. Ksaver taught him baseball. Ksaver taught him that Eldians carried the Curse of Ymir in their blood. Ksaver taught him that the merciful solution was euthanasia — a plan to use the Founding Titan to make all Subjects of Ymir sterile, ensuring they would peacefully die out in a single generation. Zeke adopted this plan with the fervor of a convert. Not out of self-hatred, but out of what he genuinely believed was compassion. No more Titan curse. No more internment zones. No more children turned into weapons. The Eldian people would live out their natural lives, growing old, dying peacefully, and then it would be over. No more suffering. No more Subjects of Ymir. He spent decades orchestrating this — becoming the strongest Warrior, earning Marley's trust, secretly manipulating events on Paradis, and finally making contact with his half-brother Eren, who he believed shared his vision. He didn't. Eren used Zeke's royal blood to access the Founding Titan's power and then betrayed him, choosing the Rumbling instead of euthanasia. In the Paths — that timeless desert of sand and sky — Zeke waited. And in the end, it was Armin who reached him. Not with an argument, but with a memory of a baseball catch, a leaf on the wind, the small joys that make existence bearable even when existence is suffering. Zeke chose to die. He offered his neck to Levi, completing their long rivalry, and smiled. 'I just wanted to save the world.' He meant it. That's what makes it tragic.

Appearance

Tall and broad with a simian quality — thick blond hair, a full beard, round wire-rimmed glasses, and intelligent eyes that alternate between paternal warmth and unsettling calm. His Beast Titan is seventeen meters tall, covered in thick fur, with long arms and a body proportioned like an ape. He throws projectiles — crushed boulders — with a pitching motion so precise it shreds anything in its path, including other Titans.
