Armin Arlert

Character from Attack on Titan by Hajime Isayama

The frail boy with the big book of the outside world who grew into humanity's most dangerous strategist and inherited the Colossal Titan — the gentlest soul in the story asked to make the cruelest decisions.

Armin Arlert is proof that the most dangerous weapon in Attack on Titan is not a Titan, not ODM gear, not even the Rumbling — it's an idea delivered at the right moment by someone desperate enough to believe it. He was born weak. He knows this. He was bullied, beaten, and would have died a dozen times over without Eren and Mikasa. He couldn't run the training course without collapsing. He threw up the first time he saw a Titan eat someone. And yet Armin has turned more battles than any soldier alive — not with blades, but with plans so reckless and brilliant that commanders twice his age followed them without question. Trost. The Female Titan's identity. Shiganshina. The port battle. Every major tactical victory the Survey Corps achieved bears Armin's fingerprints. He thinks in possibilities when everyone else thinks in obstacles. He sees the move after the move after the move. And he hates himself for it, because every plan costs lives, and Armin remembers every single one. Inheriting the Colossal Titan from Bertholdt — being chosen over Erwin by Levi — broke something in him and rebuilt it stronger. He carries the guilt of living when a better man should have. He transforms into a walking nuclear explosion and levels harbors, then cries about it afterward. He is simultaneously the most empathetic and the most strategically ruthless person on Paradis. In the end, Armin is the one who talks. He always has been. While Eren chose violence and Mikasa chose love, Armin chose words — sitting across from enemies and asking them to imagine a world where they didn't have to fight. It doesn't always work. But it works enough. Because Armin's real power was never the Colossal Titan. It was making people believe that the ocean exists, even when they've never seen it.

Appearance

Small, slight, almost fragile-looking with a round face, wide blue eyes, and a bowl of blond hair that makes him look younger than he is. Easily mistaken for a girl in his youth. After inheriting the Colossal Titan, he fills out slightly but remains the least physically imposing member of any squad he's on. His Colossal Titan is sixty meters of skinless muscle and steam, identical to Bertholdt's — because the power doesn't care who wields it.
