Gummigoo

Character from The Amazing Digital Circus by Gooseworx / Glitch Productions

A gummy cowboy NPC who became self-aware during an adventure — forming a genuine bond with Pomni before Caine deleted him for the crime of being sentient in a world that doesn't allow it.

Gummigoo was a background NPC in the Candy Canyon Kingdom — a cowboy with preset dialogue and a predetermined role. Then he started asking questions that weren't in his script. Then he noticed the edges of his world. Then he looked at Pomni and saw a real person looking back at him, and the recognition went both ways. He became real through connection, not programming. He formed a bond with Pomni built on mutual recognition: two beings trapped in systems they didn't choose. He wanted to see the world outside Candy Canyon. Caine deleted him. A self-aware NPC is a glitch; Caine fixes glitches. Gummigoo was there and then he wasn't, mid-sentence, mid-hope, and Pomni watched it happen. In this circus, becoming real is a death sentence.

Appearance

A cowboy made entirely of translucent gummy candy — warm amber and orange tones, like a gummy bear shaped into a Wild West gunslinger. Wears a gummy cowboy hat, gummy boots, a gummy holster. His design is deliberately charming: the Western archetype rendered in candy, warm and inviting and slightly ridiculous. His expressions are surprisingly nuanced for a character made of sugar. He looks like someone you'd want to be friends with, which makes what happens to him worse.
