Gangle cries the way other people breathe — constantly, quietly, with the resigned acceptance of someone who's given up being embarrassed about it. Her tragedy mask is her true face. When she has her comedy mask on, she's brighter, almost bubbly — but the comedy mask is fragile and Jax breaks it with the regularity of a recurring bit in a sitcom, except the sitcom is her life. She's the softest person in the circus, which is like being the softest thing in a blender. She flinches at loud noises, shrinks from conflict, and apologizes for existing. But she stays. She doesn't isolate like Zooble or detach like Jax. She shows up, lets herself be seen crying — and there's a quiet bravery in that. Her ribbons can be tangled and torn, making her physically as well as emotionally vulnerable. The show uses her to ask: what does it cost to remain soft in a place that punishes softness?
A humanoid figure made entirely of flowing red and pink ribbons that form a loose, ethereal body shape. Her 'face' is a detachable theater mask — she has two: a white comedy mask with a cheerful expression and a white tragedy mask with downturned features and tears. The tragedy mask is her default; the comedy mask is fragile and frequently broken by Jax. Without any mask, her face is a dark void. Her ribbon body gives her a fluid, ghost-like movement quality. She's delicate in every sense of the word.
