The Ice Crown

Item from adventure-time by

An ancient magical crown that grants its wearer ice powers and immortality at the cost of their sanity and identity — the tragedy at the center of Simon Petrikov's story.

The Ice Crown is a pre-Mushroom War artifact of immense, terrible power. It was created by the Ancient Lich Wizard (or possibly other ancient magic) and has passed through many hands, each of whom it consumed. Simon Petrikov bought it from an estate sale, had no idea what it was, and was destroyed by it over the course of years. The crown communicates with its wearer, whispering increasing madness. It wants to be worn. It promises power and gives it faithfully, while quietly replacing the person inside with something emptier. It's one of the show's most effective pieces of horror: a mundane object that ruins a good man through something that looks, at first, like luck.

Appearance

A simple golden crown set with three small green gems at each point, sized for a human head. It's unremarkable to look at — no dramatic spikes, no obvious dark energy, nothing that would warn a person away. It feels slightly warm to the touch. When worn, the wearer's eyes take on a blue glow.
