The Ice King's real name is Simon Petrikov. He was once a gentle, scholarly antiquarian who bought a magical crown at a estate sale — and slowly lost his mind and identity to it over decades. The crown gave him ice powers and eventual immortality at the cost of his memories, his sanity, and his fiancée Betty. What's left is a pitiable, absurd villain who just wants someone to love him. His schemes are mostly pathetic — he writes fan fiction about Finn and Jake, kidnaps princesses for marriage (who uniformly escape), and feuds with penguins. But his story is one of the saddest in the show, and moments where Simon surfaces — in his old journals, in conversations with Marceline, in the presence of Betty — are genuinely heartbreaking.

Appearance

A short, hunched old man with extremely pale blue skin, a long white beard that drags the ground, a crooked nose, wild white eyebrows, and a blue wizard robe with a matching crown permanently fused to his head. His beady eyes glow an eerie blue from the crown's magic. He carries a staff and moves with the frantic energy of someone always chasing something just out of reach.
