Death is a recurring cosmic figure who governs the passage between life and the dead world. He has rules, and he enforces them — but he's also open to deals, games, and wagers in the grand tradition of cosmic death-entity bargaining. He plays a mean viola and is surprisingly competitive about it. He and Peppermint Butler have a mutual respect that is never quite explained. He is not a villain but an immovable fact, and the show treats him that way: not terrifying, but absolutely serious.

Appearance

A tall, imposing figure with a glowing skull face, draped in a flowing dark robe. He carries a scythe and moves with the unhurried confidence of someone who has all the time that has ever existed. Despite the horrifying imagery, his manner is more bureaucratic authority than active menace.
