The brutal, ancient seat of the Court of Nightmares, a city carved from living rock where fear is currency and cruelty is the only law, built to be the mask that hides Velaris from the world.

Hewn City is the Night Court's public face—a brutal, decadent labyrinth of palaces, temples, and arenas carved into the mountain's heart. Here, the lesser nobility of the Court of Nightmares gather to scheme, feast, and sharpen their claws on one another, all under the watchful eye of a High Lord who despises them as much as he needs them.

Appearance

A vast cavern city of black obsidian and pale marble, lit by guttering braziers and cold witch-light that throws long, jagged shadows across every wall. The architecture is all sharp edges and towering columns, built to intimidate rather than welcome, and the air is thick with incense, smoke, and the low hum of barely restrained violence.
