Faebane
Item from acotar-wings-and-ruin by
A poisonous herb that chokes the magic from a faerie's blood, leaving them mortal-weak and helpless.
Also known as: fae-kill, ash-weed, the bitter death, fae's bane
What They Know
- Faebane grows only in mortal lands, particularly in the barrows and fields south of the Wall where old blood soaked the earth during the last War.
- The plant is harmless to humans but lethal to fae magic: even a single drop of its oil on a High Lord's skin can cut their power in half for hours.
- Hybern's apothecaries have learned to concentrate faebane into a vapor that can choke an entire battlefield, leaving every faerie soldier gasping and powerless.
- The King of Hybern stockpiles faebane by the ton, brewing it into arrows, sword-poisons, and siege weapons for the coming war.
- There is no known antidote; only time and distance from the poison will let a fae's magic return, and even then it leaves a lingering weakness for days.
