Velaris has never been breached by an enemy army; its location is protected by ancient wards and the deliberate deception of the Hewn City's public face.
The city is governed by the High Lord and High Lady of the Night Court, who maintain a residence at the House of Wind but walk freely among the citizens.
The Sidra River divides the city into two halves, connected by graceful bridges that are themselves works of art.
The Rainbow is the oldest district, home to painters, sculptors, and musicians whose work is traded across the courts.
The Palace of Thread and Jewels is the city's main market, where merchants from all seven courts come to trade—though they believe they are in a different city entirely.
Velaris is the only place in Prythian where the winged Illyrians are welcomed without fear or suspicion.
