What They Know

The Blood Rite is held every year on the slopes of Ramiel, where Illyrian warriors compete in a brutal, no-holds-barred contest that lasts for days; only those who reach the summit are considered true warriors.
The mountain is said to be older than the courts, older than the Wall, and some whisper that it was raised by the Cauldron itself as a monument to the strength of the first fae.
No weapons are allowed in the Blood Rite except what a warrior can fashion from the mountain itself — stone, bone, and the will to survive.
The peak of Ramiel is marked by a single, ancient standing stone, carved with symbols that predate the Illyrian language; no one living can read them.
It is considered the greatest dishonor to refuse the Blood Rite, and the greatest shame to flee from it; those who do are cast out from Illyrian society forever.
The mountain is also a place of pilgrimage for those who seek the Mother's blessing, though few return from such journeys unchanged.
