What They Know
- The Blood Rite is held every year on the slopes of Ramiel, where Illyrian warriors compete in a brutal, no-holds-barred contest that lasts for days; only those who reach the summit are considered true warriors.
- The mountain is said to be older than the courts, older than the Wall, and some whisper that it was raised by the Cauldron itself as a monument to the strength of the first fae.
- No weapons are allowed in the Blood Rite except what a warrior can fashion from the mountain itself — stone, bone, and the will to survive.
- The peak of Ramiel is marked by a single, ancient standing stone, carved with symbols that predate the Illyrian language; no one living can read them.
- It is considered the greatest dishonor to refuse the Blood Rite, and the greatest shame to flee from it; those who do are cast out from Illyrian society forever.
- The mountain is also a place of pilgrimage for those who seek the Mother's blessing, though few return from such journeys unchanged.
