The Mask is a made object of the Dread Trove, forged by the Cauldron in an age before the courts were named. It is the key to the dead—the wearer can command the slain, raise them from their rest, and bind them to their will. But the Mask is not a tool; it is a hunger, and it demands a price from anyone who dares to wear it.
The Mask is a thing of pale, bone-white metal, smooth as polished ivory and cold as a grave. It covers the entire face, with no eyeholes or mouth slit—only a seamless, featureless surface that seems to drink the light around it. When worn, it clings to the skin like a second flesh, and the faintest silver tracery of veins pulses across its surface, as though it were alive.
