The Crown
Item from acotar-silver-flames by
A made object of the Dread Trove that compels obedience and binds minds, forged by the Cauldron in an age before the courts.
The Crown is one of three objects of the Dread Trove, ancient made-things of immense and terrible power. It is a tool of dominion, capable of overriding the will of any mind it touches, binding the wearer's commands into the very thoughts of others.
Appearance
A circlet of dark, tarnished silver, set with three faceted gems that gleam like frozen blood. Its surface is etched with spiraling runes that seem to shift when not directly looked at, and a faint, cold pressure emanates from it, as if the air itself bends toward the wearer's will.
Also known as: The Crown of Dominion, The Mind-Binder, The Circlet of Compulsion
What They Know
- The Crown was forged by the Cauldron in the dawn of Prythian, before the courts were even named, as a tool to bind the wills of the lesser fae and the beasts of the wild.
- It is said that the Crown was once worn by a High Lord of the Night Court in the age before the Wall, who used it to enslave an entire city until the Cauldron itself rebelled and the city was swallowed by the earth.
- The Crown's power is not limited to the living—it can compel the dead to speak, and the earth to move, if the wearer has the strength to command it.
- The three gems are not jewels but the crystallized tears of a dying god, wept when the Cauldron first learned to make things that could unmake.
- The Crown is one of the three objects of the Dread Trove that the King of Hybern seeks, believing that with it he can bind the will of every High Lord and shatter the Treaty forever.
