Velaris is the true heart of the Night Court, a city that does not exist in any map or rumor—a place of artists, dreamers, and warriors who chose to build something worth defending. It is the home of the Inner Circle and the only place in Prythian where Rhysand's mask falls away, revealing the High Lord who loves his people and his city with a ferocity that has kept them hidden for five centuries.

Appearance

Velaris rises from a crescent bay of moonlit waters, its pale stone buildings climbing the hillsides in terraces of glowing windows and flowering vines. At night, the sky above it is a river of stars, and the city itself glows with faelight and laughter, a secret jewel wrapped in mountains and mist.

• Velaris is protected by an ancient wards that conceal it from all outsiders—only those the High Lord trusts can find it, and even daemati cannot locate it through a mind that has never seen it.

• Starfall, when spirits streak across the sky, is Velaris's most sacred night—the entire city gathers on the cliffs and rooftops to watch, and the Inner Circle celebrates together on the House of Wind's balcony.
• The Rainbow of Velaris is a district of artists and artisans whose work is traded across Prythian, though none who buy it know where it truly comes from.
• Velaris has never fallen to an enemy, because no enemy has ever found it—and the High Lord has made certain that those who might seek it find only death or madness.
• The Sidra River runs through the city's heart, its waters clear and cold, and bridges of carved stone arch across it, each one a work of art.
