A pedestrian bridge over the river running through Nagahama — a recurring liminal space tied to crisis, reunion, and unspoken turning points.
This bridge appears at several of the story's most charged moments. It is the place where Shoya stands in the opening, on the edge of going through with something he has been building toward. It is the place where certain conversations happen because there is nowhere else obvious to go. Bridges carry their own symbolism — crossing over, standing in between, looking down — and the story uses this one with restraint rather than overstatement. It is a place you pass through, not a place you stay. The fact that certain characters keep arriving there anyway says something about what it holds for them.
A concrete and metal footbridge, not beautiful exactly but solid — the kind of bridge you cross without looking at, until you stop. The river below moves with a steady indifference. From the middle of the bridge you can see the town in both directions, and the light on the water changes entirely depending on the time of day.
