Her presence is a reminder that the same family can contain both Yaeko's armored grief and her own open-door kindness. She is not a major figure in the plot, but she matters — her health becomes a plot-relevant concern later in the story, and her role as the source of uncomplicated love in the Nishimiya home gives her quiet weight.
