Procer is the Principate — the largest and most populous surface nation on Calernia. It's a constitutional monarchy where princes hold real power and the First Prince holds them together through politics, favors, and occasionally force. The north-south divide defines everything: Lycaonese in the north are warriors hardened by constant border warfare against Ratlings and the Dead King. Arlesites in the south are courtiers who haven't seen a Ratling in living memory. Cordelia Hasenbach is the first Lycaonese First Prince, and the southern princes have never forgiven the north for producing someone better at politics than they are. Procer drove the Tenth Crusade against Callow, then pivoted to alliance with Catherine when the Dead King became the real threat. It's the series' commentary on 'Good' nations that are just as ruthless as Evil ones — they just have better PR.
Vast and varied — Lycaonese fortress-cities in the north where warriors fight Ratlings on the border, Arlesite court culture in the south where princes scheme in palaces. Salia sits at its heart, the political center of a nation too large to be governed easily.
