The capital of Praes — a city of half a million built in the Wasteland's heart, dominated by the Tower that has been the seat of Evil power for centuries.
Ater is Praes's capital, positioned between the cities of Aksum, Nok, and Okoro at the center of the Wasteland. Over half a million people live here, served by magical infrastructure that compensates for the barren surrounding land. The Tower rises from its center — the symbol of Praesi power for centuries. The city is a microcosm of Praesi society: Soninke nobility in their estates, Duni commoners in the lower quarters, greenskin districts that have grown since the Reforms, and everywhere the particular tension of a population that knows the person ruling them could destroy the city on a whim if the mood struck.
A vast city in an impossible location — thriving in the middle of the barren Wasteland through magical infrastructure and sheer imperial will. The Tower dominates the skyline, a spire of dark stone over two hundred stories tall, wreathed in perpetual storm clouds at its peak.
