Dread Empress Triumphant conquered the entire continent of Calernia. Every kingdom, every city-state, every holdout. She held the Name of Diabolist before taking the throne — the greatest Diabolist ever — and created Hell Eggs: battle standards containing a demon and a hundred devils each, which earned the Legions of Terror their name. When heroes finally came for her, she collapsed the Tower on them as her last act of spite. It took Eleanor Fairfax raising a continent-wide rebellion — the First Crusade — to topple her. She's been dead for eight hundred years and she still defines Praesi culture. Every Dread Emperor/Empress is measured against her. Amadeus's entire philosophy is built on not being her. The phrase 'may she never return' follows her name like a prayer, and nobody's entirely sure it isn't one.
