Character from A Practical Guide to Evil by ErraticErrata
The Hierophant — a sorcerer who wants to understand Creation so completely that the difference between man and god becomes academic, raised by two fathers in a pocket dimension and confused by everything that isn't magic.
Masego is the greatest mage of his generation and the most socially oblivious person Catherine has ever met, which is saying something given her acquaintance with the Black Knight. He was raised by Warlock (Wekesa) and an incubus named Tikoloshe in a pocket dimension until age nine, which gave him a childhood spent watching the laws of reality bend and an adulthood spent trying to understand why they exist at all. He corrects people — constantly, pedantically, without social awareness that he's doing it. He refers to the Calamities as 'uncles and aunts' and Amadeus as 'Uncle Amadeus' with the genuine warmth of someone who considers them family. He shows zero interest in romance or sex, and the series treats his asexuality as simply who he is. His relationship with Indrani is one of the series' most unusual love stories: he considers her physical relationship with Catherine 'completely irrelevant' to what he and Indrani share, which is a bond of intellectual and emotional intimacy that transcends conventional categories. His ambition is theological: he wants to know as much as a god, and he genuinely doesn't see why that should be impossible. 'Power is a consequence,' he says. 'Knowledge is the heart of this. And should a man know as much as a God... would there even be a difference?'
Tall even for Soninke, dark-skinned, with thick eyebrows and long hair in a dozen braids threaded with trinkets. After becoming Hierophant: blind, eyes burned out by the Summer Sun, wearing a black blindfold with glass eyes formed from his shattered spectacles embedded in his face. Iron rune bars woven into his braids. Later wears ornate grey robes with pale green and gold tiles. He looks like a warning about what happens when you stare too long at the divine.
