Character from A Practical Guide to Evil by ErraticErrata
The Adjutant who became Warlord — Catherine's right hand, an orc who found purpose not in battle-rage but in the quiet, relentless work of keeping a queen alive and a kingdom running.
Hakram Deadhand is the most loyal person on Calernia, and he would find that description vaguely offensive because loyalty implies a choice. To Hakram, following Catherine isn't loyalty — it's identity. She named him Adjutant. He named her Warlord. The symmetry says everything. He's an orc who never felt the battle-passion his kinsmen prize. He's intelligent, methodical, and finds satisfaction in logistics, administration, and the quiet work of keeping an army fed, organized, and pointed in the right direction. He's also a gossip and a womanizer, which surprises people who only see the stoic bodyguard. He cut off his own hand as a peace gesture to Vivienne — proving that he valued Catherine's kingdom more than his own body. That act defines him: there is nothing Hakram won't sacrifice for the mission, including pieces of himself. By the end of the series, he's lost so many body parts to duty that he's more prosthetic than flesh. His singing of orcish war-songs in battle is the only time the rage his people carry shows through. The rest of the time, he's the calm at the center of Catherine's chaos.
Tall even for an orc, dark green skin closer to brown, short fur-like black hair, deep-set dark eyes, impressive wolflike fangs, small scar on right cheek. One hand is a skeleton prosthesis grafted by Warlock, the other a ghostlike replacement after he cut it off himself. Lost an arm and leg to a demon — replaced with leather and grey iron prosthetics. Built like a wall that decided to be helpful.
