The Owl Express is the Conductor's pride and joy -- a steam train that serves as both his personal transport and his primary movie set. Two major acts take place on board: Murder on the Owl Express, where Hat Kid must solve a murder mystery among the Express Owls (with the Conductor himself as the prime suspect), and Train Rush, where the entire train is rigged to explode and Hat Kid must race to the front before time runs out. The train is populated by Express Owls in various roles -- passengers, suspects, crew members, and occasional enemies. A newspaper clipping on board claims the Owl Express is the only train in the world, which is either propaganda or a genuine gap in this world's geography given that an entire cat-run subway system exists elsewhere. The contrast between the train's cozy interior and the lethal situations that unfold on it captures A Hat in Time's core tone: everything looks charming until someone starts a timer.
