Mafia Town

Location from A Hat In Time by Gears for Breakfast

An island paradise conquered by bald thugs who cannot cook -- a sun-drenched Mediterranean town built around a geyser, where every restaurant serves terrible seafood and a girl with a mustache plots revolution.

Mafia Town is the game's first chapter and the location that sets A Hat in Time's tone -- a place that looks like an Italian vacation postcard but is run by a criminal organization of bald men who smell like fish. The Mafia of Cooks arrived at some unknown point in the past, fired the original inhabitants out of cannons, and converted the entire island into their seafood restaurant empire. The town cycles through dramatically different states across its seven acts. Day acts are bright and bustling. Night acts are moody and tense. The lava act covers the streets in molten rock. The Golden Vault act turns the whole town into a treasure hunt. Each version of the same map feels like a different location entirely. Key landmarks include the Red, Blue, Green, and Gold vaults scattered across the quarters, the construction site where the Badge Seller first appears, and the lighthouse at the docks. Mustache Girl's vandalism of Mafia Boss graffiti is visible on walls throughout the town, telling a silent story of resistance.

Appearance

A colorful island divided into four quarters by water streams, with Mediterranean-style architecture in bright whites, blues, and terracotta. The Mafia Headquarters sits atop a giant geyser in the center, looming over everything. A main plaza with a fountain, a port area, a small beach, and winding streets packed with Mafia-run shops and restaurants. During lava acts, the streets literally flow with molten rock. At night, the town glows with lanterns and becomes eerily quiet.
