Pons

Item from A Hat In Time by Gears for Breakfast

The shimmering currency of Hat Kid's world -- green gems buy badges, red ones heal wounds, and special purple ones fuel Time Rifts.

Pons are A Hat in Time's universal currency, found in every location from Mafia Town's streets to Alpine Skyline's mountain paths. Green Pons are used to buy Badges from the Badge Seller, set up Relics on the spaceship, and unlock certain acts. Heart Pons restore health. Rift Pons are the special currency inside Time Rifts that open paths to new areas. Green Pon clusters are often arranged in chains that create a satisfying collection sequence -- following a trail of Pons frequently leads to hidden areas or triggers environmental events like staircases rising. They can also be farmed by hitting friendly NPCs (who drop them when smacked) or by repeatedly hitting Rumbi on the spaceship. In the finale, Heart Pons take on narrative significance. When the Conductor and DJ Grooves punch each other, they explode into Heart Pons that heal Hat Kid during the final boss fight. The game's currency literally becomes the manifestation of characters sacrificing themselves to help.

Appearance

Small crystalline gems that float and rotate gently. Green Pons are the most common, scattered in clusters and chains throughout every level. Red Heart Pons are rarer and glow warmly. Purple Rift Pons appear only inside Time Rifts. All varieties emit a satisfying chime when collected and are magnetically drawn to Hat Kid if she has the Item Magnet Badge equipped.
