Snatcher's Minions

Character from A Hat In Time by Gears for Breakfast

Small stuffed doll creatures bound by soul contracts to serve the Snatcher -- former forest residents whose spirits were sewn into plush bodies as permanent employees.

Snatcher's Minions are the workforce of Subcon Forest -- former residents whose souls were contracted by the Snatcher and stuffed into cloth doll bodies. They serve as the primary interactive NPCs of Chapter 3, giving Hat Kid directions, warnings, and the occasional hint about what horrifying task the Snatcher has lined up next. Their origin is a mirror of Hat Kid's situation: they wandered into Subcon Forest, the Snatcher trapped them, and they signed contracts to save their souls. Unlike Hat Kid, they never managed to fight their way out. They are simultaneously pitiable and functional -- they have accepted their lot and perform their duties with the resigned efficiency of minimum-wage employees who know their boss can literally destroy them. The Storybook pages suggest that some of them were once the citizens of Subcon Village before Vanessa's corruption froze the kingdom. Their transformation from living people to ghost dolls parallels the forest's transformation from a thriving community to a haunted wilderness.

Appearance

Small ragdoll-like figures with round bodies made of stitched fabric. Have button eyes and simple stitched mouths. Come in various muted colors -- purple, blue, green. Their bodies look handmade and slightly lopsided, giving them a creepy-cute quality. Some carry tiny lanterns or tools. They waddle rather than walk.
