Moon Penguins

Character from A Hat In Time by Gears for Breakfast

DJ Grooves' loyal penguin entourage -- terrible actors who can inexplicably hover and snap their fingerless flippers, devoted to their director despite his low opinion of their talent.

The Moon Penguins are DJ Grooves' ride-or-die crew. They help with his movies, take pictures of Hat Kid during Picture Perfect, and generally orbit Grooves like starstruck fans at a concert. Despite Grooves calling them 'terrible actors,' he keeps casting them because their loyalty is genuine -- they even form a protective circle around him when things go wrong. Their supernatural abilities are played for laughs -- hovering and snapping without fingers are treated as perfectly normal penguin things in this world. They appear as one of the most common NPC types in the finale's queue line, suggesting there are far more of them than the chapter initially shows.

Appearance

Anthropomorphic penguins with round bodies, stubby flippers, and large expressive eyes. Shorter than the Express Owls. Some wear DJ-themed accessories or sunglasses in imitation of Grooves. They waddle with an earnest clumsiness that contrasts with their ability to briefly hover -- a skill unusual for penguins by any standard.
